Gordon “Gordie” E. Loomer

Born on September 2, 1925 - Died June 12, 2005

 

            After a short battle with leukemia, Gordie Loomer passed away.  Gordon “Gordie” E. Loomer died June 12, 2005, in Auburn at his home. He was 79.  Gordie was born on September 2, 1925, in Fergus Falls Minnesota.  He served in the Army and settled in South King County area where he resided for many years.

Gordie learned to call square dances and called dances the Central Puget Sound and Rainier Council area focusing his efforts in the Ravensdale/Black Diamond, Covington and Kent area.  It was in Ravensdale in 1968 that Gordie started the Wagon Wheel Square Dance Club.  On January 17, 2004 Gordie was made a lifetime member of the Wagon Wheels. 

Gordie owned and operated a plastic engraving business.  When Gordie retired, he sold the business, which became know as “Wellco.”

Besides Square Dancing and calling, Gordie enjoyed woodcarving and card games especially Pinochle.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Caring Loomer of Auburn; stepson Vincent Theel of Washington, D.C.; stepdaughter Loni Yates of Gig Harbor; brother Curtis Loomer of Wisconsin; sister Joanne Wilber of California; eight grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.

Gordie was buried at Hillcrest Burial Park in Kent.

Memorials/remembrances for Gordie should be sent to the Youth Square dance  Scholarship Fund and/or the Square and Folk Dance Heritage Center of the Washington State Square and Folk Dance Federation
