PRESIDENT'S REPORT
Here are the stats on our Spring Fling dance on April 7th.  We had 40 members and 25 guests. Guests were from Rouse-A-Rounds, Pi-R-Squares, Solo Squares, Jacks & Jills, Rings n’ Swings.  Thanks to Wayne for calling and Randy for cueing a great dance!  We had Cliff Nichols, Kappie Kappenman and Mike Olson as guest callers. The hosts for this dance were Neta Buxton, Millie Bushnell, Gary Moberly, Stan & Patricia Root, Beverly Root and Biff Webster.  A big thanks to our hosts.

At our Welcome New Dancers Dance on April 21st, we had 45 members and 39 guests.  Guests were from Solo Squares, Rouse-A-Rounds, Double AA’s,   Pi-R-Squares, Rings n’ Swings, Capitol Singles, Spinners, Woodinville Square Crows and a great caravan from Samena Squares.  Another great dance called by Wayne and the guest caller from Samena Squares, Susan Morris and cueing by Randy.  Thanks guys for a great dance.  Also, thanks to our hosts Dave & June Mehl and Paul & Kathy Feider.

On Saturday, April 28th, we had our annual Mystery Caravan.  The bus was full, there were a lot of interesting contests and games which made a fun-filled and exciting trip!  We went to Northwest Trek in Eatonville, had lunch, then toured the park and went on the tram ride to see a lot of interesting animals.  From there we went to Sumner for pizza and then on to the Sumner Hall to dance with Tom Tomlinson at the Roamin’ Tacomans.

I want to thank Kathy Kellberg and Gina Trenkamp for doing this caravan 3 years in a row and for such a fun and exciting trip each year.  You know, I’ve been involved in some mystery murder dinners with these two in the past and it’s always been an exciting time, so I knew they would do a great job for the Mystery Caravan.  I want to thank you two for all your hard work in planning this event and for my part, I had a great time.  I was also pleased to notice a lot of our new members (formerly students) were on this trip.

The dance year is winding down, however, there are plenty of places to dance this summer.  Circle 8 has something going all summer long and of course, the National Convention in Spokane in late June.

I want to remind all round dancers that Randy is starting Round Dance Workshops at 6:30 on dance night.  This is Phase 3 with some Phase 4, so come on out and learn some new moves.

Hope to see you on the dance floor!

Square’um - STEVE

EDITOR'S COLUMN

Only 51 more days until our National Convention in Spokane from June 27 - 30.  I just looked at the Website and there are now 5144 dancers registered with 1559 from the State of Washington.

If you have never taken the time to look at the Website, now is the time to do it.  There is a lot of pertinent and useful information regarding the National.

SUNSHINE REPORT

Here comes the Merry Month of May with great weather that shows off the glorious beauty of the Northwest.  Time for fun dancing, for family and friend celebrations of Mother’s Day, Memorial Day, outdoor eating, and travels near and far.  Time to delight in new additions to families such as NETA BUXTON’s nearly 2-month-old great grandgirl (ask her for pictures!).  We at Rings n’ Swings were delighted to see the little one at last Thursday’s dance.  Have yet to hear about DAVE and MARY SCHOTT’s becoming first time grandparents.  Enjoy all these gifts to the fullest!

It was wonderful to see DON & ELAINE LITTLE on the dance floor again, after all their surgeries.  Prayers for those who are still in need of better health, such as my STAN.  We all are thankful that ART SMART is feeling good again.

A special thanks to all of you, as you reach out by helping the dance hosts at all our dances; by greeting new and old, and by helping with decorating, by setting up and serving food, helping with cleanup, by your smiles, laughter and hugs. All that makes the workload lighter for those assigned these tasks.  NETA, ART, STAN and I are really thankful for your help at our recent hosting time as ART was not able to be there.

Yellow rocks and happiness to all.

    Sunshine Lady, Patricia

RECRUITING NEW MEMBERS

AnyBody Can . . . . Recruit

The newly formed student   recruitment committee has unveiled their initial plan to  help keep our wonderful club strong and growing.  They are implementing plans that have been successfully used to recruit new students in other clubs around the country.  A goal of thirty new students for next fall was set.  This is about how many students our club needs to break even on lessons.

As each club member has a responsibility to host dances and lessons, we also need every club member to help in the recruitment of new students by providing names, addresses and emails of at least two couples or individuals.

The committee will then send an invitation inviting them to attend lessons and reminders as lessons grow nearer.  Don’t be concerned about their response, only that they are mentally and physically capable and that you would want to associate with them.

The committee will work on making a database and sending out the invitations over the summer.

Please be sure to get your recruitment form filled out and turned into bob Mertens by May 19, 2012.  A possible incentive for the member bringing in the most students next fall is also being discussed.
